The Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) has been officially registered as a global partner with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs for the initiative titled:

“Collaborative Library Innovations for Advancing Ideation, Learning, Research and Innovation Ecosystem in Uganda”

This partnership, registered with a start date of 6 January 2025 and running until 31 January 2027, recognizes CUUL’s leadership in leveraging library systems and collaborative partnerships to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Uganda. The Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) is committed to advancing national and global development priorities through strategic collaboration, innovation, and equitable access to knowledge.

In partnership with the United Nations and a broad network of international and regional stakeholders, CUUL plays a vital role in supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within Uganda’s higher education and research ecosystem.

Through its member institutions, the Consortium promotes SDG 4: Quality Education by expanding equitable access to academic and research resources, fostering lifelong learning opportunities, and strengthening ICT enabled library services.

CUUL is equally dedicated to SDG 5: Gender Equality, empowering women researchers, scholars, and students through inclusive information services and targeted capacity-building initiatives. The aim is for Equal Access: Women researchers and students will have equal access to academic and research resources, reducing gender disparities in education and career opportunities.

In alignment with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, the Consortium supports the development of robust research infrastructure, digital repositories, and innovation-driven knowledge systems that enhance Uganda’s research visibility and impact.

Central to CUUL’s mission is SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which underscores the importance of collaboration. Through partnerships with global and regional organizations such as Research4Life, EIFL, RENU, and IFLA, CUUL strengthens knowledge exchange, resource sharing, and collective action.
