Why Join CUUL

CUUL is registered non-profit organization designed to plan and manage cooperatively projects and activities which will provide the member Library communities with faster and more equitable access to the Library/information resources.

The purpose of the Consortium is to facilitate effective and efficient collaboration and resource sharing among member Libraries in Uganda in order to strengthen the Library services provided to the students, staff and other patronage of the institutions.

The biennially elected executive committee and member institutions of the CUUL are striving to become outstanding collaborators, committed to complimenting and pushing the boundaries of teaching, learning, research and creative expression through knowledge with adeptness in the provision of Library and information services. If your institution believes in the same values as the institutions that comprise the CUUL-quality, efficacy, and collaboration-you should consider joining CUUL.

In this time of increasing number of tertiary students and scholars; narrowing resources and rising expectations, University Libraries face many challenges with many pressures to operate efficiently. The demand to provide more print and electronic resources, for example, often results in need to find creative ways to get the most of our physical collections and access E-resources.

CUUL Activities

The Consortium generally initiates and coordinates projects and activities related to resource sharing and Library networking and maintain cooperative relationships with groups or agencies with similar goals.

  • The consortium enables access to electronic resources at highly reduced rates of subscription through licensing negations and joint payments. This enables their access at best possible subscription prices and license terms. The information in electronic formats is not owned but leased through a license which is particularly consortium friendly construct. Furthermore, information producers are as eager to sell vast resources to groups of Libraries under a single negotiated agreement and perhaps for a single price.
  • It is also an endeavor of consortium to identify other electronic resources of relevance to educational institutions.
  • The Consortium organizes workshops to assist in skills and knowledge development and facilitate better management of Library resources.
  • We encourage resource sharing among member Libraries.
  • Also, working on a staff exchange programme that will promote exchange of information and expertise related to Library and information operations.
  • The consortium partners with relevant organizations (such as the Inter-University Council for East Africa, International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications, etc) that facilitate opportunities for improving Library status and welfare.
